Thanks everybody for the replies. I am aware of that, nevertheless I think I already identified some fields where 3D makes sense. I agree that constantly posing the "why 3d" question is very important, as well as thinking of ways to combine 3d approaches with 2d scenarios. There seem to be a lot of enthusiasts out there, and even more who don't see an advantage at all. I am far away of believing that the future of the web is centered around virtual reality, nevertheless second life has a certain success and gets the ball rolling. > Personally, I think any successful massively-multiuser community space > should learn from the basic things we're learning about 2-D social > networks and social services. That's not a bad place to start. I totally agree. I was part of a community software company and what I am really missing out there in all the virtual world community projects is a way to find clear, understandable representations of well-known (or profane) web community patterns such as message boards, yellow pages, etc. > I'm assuming that you're talking about mainly the collaborative aspects, > moreso than the mechanics of making 3D objects and scripts? My interest lies in the design aspects, technology is important only for thoughts of feasibility and effort needed for prototyping. Thanks again for the resources you provided until now, it's very helpful. milan -- milan guenther * interaction design ||| | | |||| || |||||||| | || | || designing the information workplace +49 173 285 66 89 * www.guenther.cx ________________________________________________________________ *Come to IxDA Interaction08 | Savannah* February 8-10, 2008 in Savannah, GA, USA Register today: http://interaction08.ixda.org/ ________________________________________________________________ Welcome to the Interaction Design Association (IxDA)!
