Mark, this just shows how little they knew about the history of statistical
theory and practice.

This area of study attracted some of the greatest names in mathematics for
the past 450 years and grew out of the study of probabilities by Cardano
(1560), Fermat and Pascal (mid-1600s). The works we use today in the design
of quantitative studies dates back to the late 1600's and early 1700's; and
much of the analytical techniques we use were derived and proven during the
same period through to the late 1800's. During the latter part of the 20th
century we saw the introduction of many of the multivariate analysis
techniques commonly used today.
