Which, of course, gives the reverse problem for the yanks :-) Just  
because of the preponderance of US sites I've found that non-US folk  
can generally figure out "ZIP", but the reverse isn't always true.

Yup. They now have four digit codes that give a unique address in  
combination with the street name (guess who has been doing some NZ  
geo-location stuff recently :-)
