Regarding notations. I have been doing some work in gestures and find notation as a great cataloging tool, with minimal success in communicating. it is more of a "me" tool, that I use to help me know what I've covered already in trying to create a language of motion and it also helps me develop the actual semantics and syntax themselves.
See some public (open source stuff; I had nothing to do with) here: http://nuigroup.com/forums/viewthread/95/ As for other forms of notation more relevant to GUI, what do people think of Jesse James Garrett's Visual Vocabulary for Information Architecture: http://www.jjg.net/ia/visvocab/ Can this be expanded upon for better use with interaction design? I've used it back when I was doing mostly content sites, but haven't dragged it along with me into my current role.
