I must say, as someone in the thick of a job hunt, this propensity to throw in everything is not only frustrating but inefficient. I'm sort of a soup-to-nuts type (well, maybe soup-to-toast, since that last actual shipping code I wrote was in Hypertalk), but there so many listings asking for IA, UI design, visual design, usability, half a dozen languages, some specialized domain knowledge -- not to mention the charisma of Tom Cruise -- it seems to feed an endless cycle of disappointment on all fronts! In the end, of course, there's really one key skill that's more important than the others, but it's difficult to find that out without everyone (recruiter, candidate, employer) wasting a fair amount of time. - Jim Hoekema www.hoekema.com
