Title: Manager, User Interface Design Location: 10 minutes South of SF Compensation: To low 100's + bonus + equity
A leading national retailer is searching for a Manager, UI Design to manage three designers in determining the look and feel of the user interface and/or areas of the its online store. The Manager of UI Design will prioritize the team's design work; provide feedback; develop processes; grow and develop talent; and ensure that best practices for user-centered design, marketing, business strategies and vision for the UE and Marketing teams are upheld. In addition, the Manager will be responsible for the overall design of mid-sized and large projects. The ideal candidate will have seven to nine years of design experience as well as experience managing UI design teams or will be a designer ready to take the next step. Responsibilities: * Work closely with Senior Manager, IA, Content, Producers and business and marketing owners to establish how Design will achieve project or company goals * Assist with setting design direction for overall site experience and ensure projects adhere to that direction * Help develop and maintain an interactive style guide to ensure site UI guidelines are understood and enforced by internal and external processes * Collaborate successfully within the design team and creative team * Assist Senior Manager in in leading and guiding team in day-to-day to day execution of work through governance routines * Manage a team of three; lead formal and informal critiques, give effective and actionable feedback * Share site standards as they evolve; assist Senior Manager with improving processes and driving implementation of changes * Review production specifications for HTML; consult with producers, HTML and email teams to implement designs * Ensure that best practices for user-centered design, marketing, business strategies and vision for the UE and Marketing teams are upheld Requirements: * More than six years of professional design experience, including at least two years of professional Web and/or print marketing design experience * At least two years of management experience * Diverse design experience and talents (Web design, print and/or packaging, identity design, for a range of clients) * Retail or e-commerce background preferred * A college degree in Graphic Design, Interaction/Digital Design, or other Communications Design-related field preferred * User Interface and/or Information Architecture courses * Exposure to and understanding of Flex/Flash 9 environments preferred * Awareness and thought leadership in Web 2.0 design principles preferred If you feel that you are qualified for this position, please email me a Word doc or PDF version of your resume and link to your portfolio.
