HI Jeff, I think you make some interesting points. I think though that different people are going to have different needs and reactions.
I do have to say that there is the "I need yet another application" open phenomena going on. If you have an IRC client open for other things in your life then it makes sense, but opening one just for this doesn't make as much sense. The opposite is also true. I wouldn't recommend getting a twitter account and opening a twitter client up (Hate twitter in the web version) if you don't use it in other ways. I do like the idea of posting URLs, event announcements and the like. Great idea for using this. I know there has been a lot of requests for "local" lists and chats and what not from some local leaders, I wonder if setting up (IT IS SOOOO EASY) local group tweets might be useful to people around events and job announcements and the like.
