Hi Jeremy -- I don't have much time to volunteer, but I'm happy to discuss my experience. I was the first leader of the education initiative for the Information Architecture Institute, and subsequently started my own company to teach design-related skills. I think I could save you a lot of pain trying things that don't work well.
