Good points, but she was asking about fonts. Since there is a actual petition movement to ban the use of Comic Sans, then I would avoid it at all costs unless you are doing an interface for something like Leapfrog, a children's interactive learning device. Even the mention of the words Comic Sans gives me chills.
The folks running the IxD program at Carnegie Mellon did the only extensive research study to date (that I found) on readability and legibility of different fonts in software interfaces, using all the standard HCI testing measures and benchmarks. But it was back in the late 90's and someone needs to do new research. The paper is also on the HCI site referenced earlier. It needs to be updated because as we all know, typography IS what communication design, or what I like to call, Information Design, is all about. We can do some very sophisticated form labeling that addresses cog psy issues in ways you couldn't do back in the late 90s in a Win Forms app. I should know, I have been tweaking the design on a 5,000 screen EMR past few years. PS:Hey Jeff H, how do you snip threads if you are using the site and not email? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
