Good points, but she was asking about fonts.

Since there is a actual petition movement to ban the use of Comic
Sans, then I would avoid it at all costs unless you are doing an
interface for something like Leapfrog, a children's interactive
learning device. Even the mention of the words Comic Sans gives me
chills.

The folks running the IxD program at Carnegie Mellon did the only
extensive research study to date (that I found) on readability and
legibility of different fonts in software interfaces, using all the
standard HCI testing measures and benchmarks. But it was back in the
late 90's and someone needs to do new research. The paper is also on
the HCI site referenced earlier.

It needs to be updated because as we all know, typography IS what
communication design, or what I like to call, Information Design, is
all about. We can do some very sophisticated form labeling that
addresses cog psy issues in ways you couldn't do back in the late
90s in a Win Forms app. I should know, I have been tweaking the
design on a 5,000 screen EMR past few years.
