I also think (maybe) that there is an issue with Gmail's design here as well.
On the one hand the auto-add to my contacts that Gmail does is often a G-d send. I know I can type an email address of almost anyone I've ever replied to and Voila! it is right there. On the other hand, there is no way to distinguish between these passive additions to my email history vs. those I've actually WANTED in my contacts. B/c of this, I don't even bother managing my well over 2000 contacts (and no I'm not that popular and I'm not a stalker). Since so many orgs are using Gmail as a quick way to "find" & "connect" w/ the social network like Dave here, they should be asked to do something about it, so that the intention behind LinkedIn's request is not so harsh. I'm just saying that if Gmail added some simple features it would be better. It would make the contact list a lot more useful.
