Steve, what is unclear is the list of schools you looked at. You seemed to mention a geographic constraint as well. There are so few IxD programs that of course geography is going to be an issue and many programs are just sub-par in general, but there are GREAT programs out there or about to bloom.
As for IxDA certification on a program, that is a serious business that requires HUGE resources to do fairly and correctly.
