What context was this performed in? (Real vs. Realistic Simulation)

        Poll worker on Election Day.

Did you have some basic, prior understanding of the domain?

I had voted before, but didn't know a lot about the entire election administration process.

Did you do training?

I took the same 2 hours of training that all poll workers are required to take in my county.

What did you call it? (methodology)

        I didn't call it anything.

Was it disruptive to work setting?

No. I just acted in the role of poll worker in all the situations required while I was there. Then I went home and wrote up notes. I took pictures during the training and on Election Day as allowed and appropriate.

Does it provide a level of insight worth the time/hassle of setting it up?

WAAAYYY better than just asking someone else. It's so different experiencing it for yourself. The boredom, the stress, the confusion, the interactions with other people. There's no way you're going to get that just by interviewing or even just observing each of the particular events.
