I think it's important to avoid programmer-ese (listeners, events, et cetera) and stick with terms/phrases that people understand (e.g., "You will be notified of changes"). If there are multiple ways of being notified (e.g., email, pop-up alert) and/or multiple times when they can be notified (e.g., on every change, once a day, once a week), your users should have clear options to adjust these settings as they see fit.
But if they only have one notification option, I would give them an area off-page somewhere (e.g., link to portion of FAQ) to read more about the notification functionality. > I am looking for advice/examples on how to word/or handle toggling a listener > on a document. > > An example of what we are thinking is a checkbox with the label "Notify me of > changes ".
