> Question #2, after how much: Is it worth it? Anyone ever read this magazine?
I'll give my biased viewpoint. I used to get it free as a part of my ACM SIGCHI membership. I found it worthwhile but difficult when it first came out. (I even had a piece published in it many years ago.) Over the years I read it, it slowly morphed into complete uselessness as the articles got shorter and shorter and the large blank spaces around the text filled up with artsy swirly things that were unrelated to the content of the articles. It was kind of sad to see people trying to explain complex ideas or actual research results in 750 words or less. I understand that the goal was to make it a more "magazine" like read and less a "journal" thing. But I found maybe one or two articles per year that were worth the paper they ended up condensed onto and those invariably were longer pieces that were allowed to go into depth on whatever topic the authors addressed. So, no, I wouldn't pay for it. When I got it for free it invariably went straight into the recycle bag. I feel badly saying that because friends and colleagues work(ed) on it and I respect anyone who works hard at something and produces things they feel are of value. Perhaps someone else would find it more valuable than I did. --Alan ________________________________________________________________ Welcome to the Interaction Design Association (IxDA)!
