There was an article written about a year ago that discussed scrolling relative to 'the fold' published on boxes and arrows. I counted (through a dozen or so days of usability lab studies) that over 70 percent of our subjects almost immediately scrolled to the bottom of the age and then back to the top. We did not focus on this behavior specifically, but it was frequent. The one caveat being that these folks were in a lab, not on their own computer, and aware that we were assessing usability... all of which likely impacted the behavior.
