Heh, I posted this video during the Summit itself:

I am a community veteran, but I've never been an organized community
leader of any kind. It appears to me, as an organizational outsider if
you will, as if this public rancor is *entirely* between a small set
of people who comprise the "leadership" of several various
organizations who think that everyone in the community cares about
their squabbles.
While I deeply deeply appreciate what so many professional community
volunteers do (without them we'd have no conferences, mailing lists,
events, etc.), I have to confess that I generally have no idea who
exactly these leaders are. I have a *rough* idea, I suppose, based on
recent email list bloviation, but even then I really can't say for
sure who's a leader in the Judean People's Front and who's a leader in
the People's Front of Judea. It's all an ugly blur. Sometimes I wonder
who's a "leader" at all -- certainly the people doing the bickering
cannot be the "leaders", can they?
Those of us who are not "leaders" do not know about and do not care
about these internecine problems. We don't follow professional
organizational leadership struggles like we might follow presidential
politics or our favorite sports. We are happy to go to conferences
based on the quality of the speakers, to subscribe and unsubscribe to
lists based on the quality of the conversation, completely oblivious
to whether it's IxDA, IAI, IOU, or ICBM. Seriously, folks? All of
these groups are, to me, functionally identical. Your differences are
petty and political.
Leaders: Perhaps it's time to start a separate "UX leadership
reconciliation" mailing list and save the rest of us your shared
grievances. Whoever sets up that list will, for one, earn the title
"leader".
Thanks,
-Cf
