Brief Posting Description Responsible for creating, evaluating and modifying prototypes to support evolving hardware and software application development. Detailed Description As a member of the User Experience team, you will develop and apply software design/usability processes in the investigation of technical problems. May develop user profiles, with emphasis on human error control, display issues, visual interaction, physical manipulation and task and objective analyses. Provide product usability, evaluation and support to product development teams, including the analysis and investigation of applications/systems including tactile methods, visual graphics, web, multimedia, voice response and conversational user interaction. May assist in developing design concept and implementation, providing input on user design considerations. May produce specifications describing user needs and internal structures for product in development. Preferred Skills Duties and tasks are varied and complex utilizing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. Typically four years of software engineering or related experience needed. Demonstrate a working knowledge and practical application of all core topics of human factors engineering profession (displays, controls, human information processing, systems engineering) and/or human computer interaction. Demonstrate a working knowledge and practical application of laboratory & field study techniques for human subjects, experimental design and statistics. Demonstrate an independent practice of at least 3 empirical and analytic methods and techniques of usability engineering. Possess working knowledge of the User Centered Design process (UCD) Possess technical and business knowledge of product/line and immediate competition Conduct usability engineering program for a specific product/line, including usability goals and objectives, customer requirements gathering, design specifications, heuristic evaluations, usability testing, competitive testing and evaluation Evangelize user-centered design process within product/line Conduct specific detailed analyses and tests by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting subjective and objective system and human performance data; compare data with competitive and previous products; and develop recommendations and solutions capable of implementation. Coordinate and track implementation of usability recommendations among designers and developers Employ valid statistical methods to conduct empirical data collection & analyses Communicate clearly plans, methods, results and recommendations in written and oral presentations to developers Possess B.A or B.S. degree as required while M.A., M.S. or Ph.D. degree in HCI, Psychology, CS, or Design is preferred Possess 4-8 yrs of professional experience in product development user experience as an individual contributor in Usability within the computer/software industry Maintain Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) or Associate Ergonomics Professional (AEP) certification objectives, customer requirements gathering, design specifications, heuristic evaluations, usability testing, competitive testing and evaluation Evangelize user-centered design process within product/line Conduct specific detailed analyses and tests by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting subjective and objective system and human performance data; compare data with competitive and previous products; and develop recommendations and solutions capable of implementation.
