Fredrik, Andreas, I find it interesting that it's nearly 100 years after Ranganathan, and we're still talking about the desirability of absolute categorisation. If you're talking about "I tag my messages so that I can find them again", please be my guest. This works for everyone. But if you're talking about "these are the tags, writ in stone, that thou shalt use on this mailing list so that everyone can track individual topics" then I would ask you to forget it. It won't work. I know that this is an Ix/UX list and not an IA list, but think about how usable and useful such a system might be. My absolute category is not your absolute category, topics are rarely atomic, topics mutate into other topics. Tags themselves change over time. Holy wars erupt over the misuse of tags, the central tag librarian is accused of fascism, showers of molten lava descend from the heavens, cats start sleeping with dogs, you get the picture. All that said... I'm willing to be proven wrong. I'll participate in a compulsory 100% tagging experiment on this list if others will. My bet is that it will fall down in less than a week, but I'd like to see it for myself. If only to confirm/shatter my own prejudices.
