All good points, Bryan, regarding an internal UCD team having 8-9 apps thrown at them and asked to test them. This still gets back to a poor design process internally. It's a tough situation to be in and typically less than ideal, which is why I started my own firm—more control over my destiny, the type of work I select, etc.

Point is that most of the "flaws with usability" aren't really a flaw w/usability so much as a flaw with the implementation of the process itself. It's kind of like focus groups or Six Sigma. I'm not a fan of either one, not because focus groups are a bad method, or SS is a bad process, but rather that their typical implementation/execution are screwed up.
