You can't remove questions, if it's compliance requirements, so you have to convince your colleagues that It's better to place the follow up questions on a separate page than keep building up the first one. If you are able to do A/B testing, I would recommend 50% on the same page, and 50% pushing the follow up questions to a second tab/page. and make sure it's track-able or you can't prove you theories.
