I've recently written a blog post on the concept of the fold. I've

Basically, whilst the fold does exist, its location varies - now more
than ever. Different screen sizes, different devices etc mean the fold
could be anywhere and you can't really design for a specific height.

Also, if your design indicates content / functionality further down
the page then the fold doesn't stop people scrolling. People scroll
if they think they need to.

Pages should have a natural flow, which means everything can't, and
shouldn't, be at the top.
