Yes, I am going to stir this particular pot.

With Wikilieaks in the news, and likely to continue for weeks, I think there is
an opportunity for LOPSA to get on the map a bit more. We've had discussions in
the past about issuing timely press releases. This is a glaring opportunity to
do so. Our Code of Ethics - a differentiator between our group and others -
provides guidance.

Independent of *personal* opinions on the legality of the Wikilieaks
disclosures, I believe the Code of Ethics speaks on point:
     "Privacy
I will access private information on computer systems only when it is
necessary in the course of my technical duties.

I will maintain and protect the confidentiality of any information to
which I may have access regardless of the method

by which I came into knowledge of it."

Further, a series of DDOS attacks have resulted against various web sites as a
result of the Wikileaks disclosures. I hope we can all agree that LOPSA expects
every professional sysadmin out there to

1. Be doing their best to defend their employer's sites against a DDOS
    "System Integrity
I will strive to ensure the necessary integrity, reliability, and
availability of the systems for which I am responsible."
and
2. Not engage in a DDOS against another site
While we do not directly repudiate engaging in DDOS attacks, we do have
this
in the Code of Ethics:
    "Laws and Policies
I will educate myself and others on relevant laws, regulations and policies
regarding the performance of my duties. "
I am not a lawyer, don't play one on TV, but I am skeptical that any legal
jurisdiction would permit DDOS attacks on sites one did not own.

I hope we can engage in civil discussion, and give our board a sense of the
membership's take on our Code of Ethics and how it should apply in these real
world examples. I'll put these three points up as a candidate foundation for a
press release. IMO, they form the foundation of behavior of what LOPSA's Code
of
Ethics demands from Professional System Administrators.

The floor is open ....
