Hi all, BayLISA, the local sysadmin group for Silicon Valley, meets the third Thursday of each month with presentations from local technology companies and professionals. The meetings are open to the public, and are usually held at LinkedIn in Mountain View (a few minutes from 101 and Shoreline). http://www.baylisa.org/ has more details where applicable.
We welcome all sysadmins in the area to join us at our next meeting, and to get involved in the local workings if you are so inclined. It's a great chance to meet and network with your peers, share job opportunities (and fish for referral bonuses), and get involved with the local sysadmin organization. * Next meeting - 5/19/2011 - Brendan Gregg on DTrace Brendan Gregg, author of "DTrace: Dynamic Tracing in Oracle Solaris, Mac OS X, and FreeBSD" will be talking about his book and the use of DTrace across platforms. We're expecting to have some copies of the book to give away in our attendee drawing. We're also planning to have a bit about the state of OpenSolaris and IllumOS. Details/RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/BayLISA/events/16472355/ * 6/16/2011 - Short But Cool Topics, FreeNAS 8 and Django on FreeBSD June's meeting will be in two parts. First, our "short but cool" topics will include 10 minute demos of Force 10 bare metal provisioning, Arista Networks vmtracer, Jordan Sissel's logstash log analysis software, and (possibly) another demo or two (contact me if you'd like to do live system administration at this meeting). The second part will be James T Nixon III doing live installation and configuration of FreeNAS 8, the newest release of the free storage software platform built on FreeBSD 8.x. He's also planning to talk about using Django on FreeBSD. Details/RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/BayLISA/events/16472356/ * Membership options Our meetings are open to the public and are free of charge. However, we do have paid membership available, which will give you access to video archives, member discounts, and other benefits to come. We also welcome institutional/corporate sponsors, either through membership or through sponsoring a meeting. Details at http://www.baylisa.org/members/join.shtml * Looking for other speakers/topics/volunteers BayLISA is here to benefit its members and attendees, so we definitely welcome suggestions and contributions to the group's activities. If you would like to see a certain topic covered, or a particular speaker, or would like to present at a future BayLISA meeting yourself, get in touch with me and we'll see what we can work out. We're also looking for people interested in getting involved with the BayLISA board, either as future members of the board or as observers/active volunteers. As always, if there are any questions, feel free to drop me a note. Thanks, Robert Novak BayLISA Secretary/Cheerleader _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] https://lists.lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
