I think a good umbrella policy isnt a bad idea, especially if you are an independent contractor. I posted this over on Matt Simmons' G+, but I think it'd be interesting to see what here thinks too... British Computer Society has a Chartered IT Professional (CITP) status that I think is interesting (http://www.bcs.org/category/10973). Basically, you need to demonstrate "a minimum of 8-10 years of experience in the IT profession; at least 3 of the last 5 years must have been in a challenging, complex position in which you have significant influence and responsibility, and full accountability." and submit references to that affect, interviews, etc. (Incidentally, I think a third party like LOPSA could make this process happen on a more global basis and provide a huge benefit to the community that way, but that's a different post for a different day.) Anyways, depending on the job, the employer looks for the CITP accreditation and goes from there. I have no idea if this is a thing that people over in the UK go through or not, but I kind of want to do it because its one "certification" that I think actually takes into account stuff that matters within IT. _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] https://lists.lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
