I don't think companies pay for professional memberships unless the employee wants the professional membership first, especially if its one that isn't required for the employee to work in the desired capacity.
I know when I registered for LISA, the accountants got hung up on the fact that membership to USENIX is included in the registration. They wanted to know what value to them was it to buy me a membership. I told them, don't pay the membership....the total cost is the same either way. I don't know what happens when I register for LISA in the future, where I have my own USENIX (and LOPSA) memberships. I actually used to have USENIX membership for years in a previous live, also had a UNIFORUM membership...and IEEE and NSPE and.... Still have my APEGGA, because pretty much have to pay that for life. > A few facts that I think are relavent here. > > Even many people who pay for their memberships don't bother to vote. > > Many large companies will pay for professional memberships, so we > don't > know if the dues are comeing out of the members pocket or are being > paid > by their employer today. > > > personally, I think anyone who is interested enough to participate > should > be able to do so, no matter who is footing the bill. > > David Lang _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.lopsa.org https://lists.lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
