Yes, Google License ActiveSync as did Apple, so the Google Apps present to an iphone much liek an exchange server. It works pretty reliably, meeting inviation accept/decline even works now.
The few caveats that I've found: * You need to log into google calendar's webui from the activated device in order to change which of your calendars are sent to your phone. This is a bit clunky, it'd be nice if the "send to my iphone" option were a checkbox in the desktop UI * archiving / deleting mail is funky, as it woudl be with any IMAP connection to google mail. I generally therefore only read / send from my phone and do archiving, deleting. labeling from the web ui. Again, not a major thing, but this might wreak havoc on other people's workflows.
