The most crucial part of "owning up" to any mistake is truly owning it.  In
other words, it's not enough to tell the boss you goofed; you've got to
follow up with "...and this is what I'm going to do to correct it.  Also,
here's what I think can be done to prevent this in the future."

As sysadmins, we're also responsible for creating/maintaining a blameless
culture.  We do that by handling issues with professionalism and clarity.
