According to my calculations:

The HP 276nw b/w toner is $86 for 2,400 pages ($0.036 per page) and the CMY
toners are each $85 for 1,800 pages ($0.047 per toner per page = $0.14 per
page).

The Canon PIXMA MX892 b/w ink cartridge is $23 for 500 pages ($0.046 per page)
and the CMY cartridges are each $18 for 500 pages ($0.036 per cartridge per
page = $0.11 per page)

So the difference in print cost is not really relevant. Canon is cheaper for
BW, and HP is cheaper for color. Not significantly different in either case.

I've had two PIXMA's at home for the last 5 years, and there are never any
issues with jets drying up, smudging, etc. They have apparently solved those
problems. I also deploy them at work (3 over the last 7 years) ... totally
reliable.

So I'm acknowledging that the Canon Inkjet and the HP Laserjet are both low
cost, reliable, fully featured. The thing that to me is a differentiator, is
as follows:

Canon PIXMA driver, including network print, scan, fax: 24MB
HP Laserjet 276nw driver: They say 47MB for basic, or 110MB for full featured.

My experience so far (maybe this is the first exception) is that HP printers
come with completely overblown invasive driver software, that constantly
harasses you to do upgrades and tries to install with parasite software like
bing bar and ask toolbar and junk like that. Maybe that basic driver is good
enough nowadays - maybe they've finally turned a corner. But I'm certainly not
giving them credit or assuming they've improved.
