I have two responses: 8x8 in particular, and "the approach" in general (independent of 8x8). We are using 8x8 phones that we bought from them (phones say Packet8 on them, did 8x8 buy Packet8 or rename or something?) Everything works fine. Call quality is great, web interface fairly useful. I *do* find that if I call our sales rep instead of ordering things online, the sales rep invariably gets us some significant discounts. So I recommend that. That being said - we're not getting super awesome voip features, softphones, mobile extensions, unified communications, presence awareness, etc. And I think they're a bit overpriced for basic service. So the approach in general - if I were going to start fresh, I would want super awesome full featured unified communication features. I cannot say if this is possible with 8x8, but if so, I bet it's overpriced. I think if you're using something like trixbox or PBX in a flash, or whatever ... buy your own VOIP phones, center it around asterisk etc... Simply subscribe to some SIP service... Then you'll get the best features and the best price. But you'll have to work for it. For different purposes (at home), I'm a fan of callcentric. So I'm biased to look at them and see what product/service offerings they might have, applicable to business. Maybe none. Also, Zoiper Communicator. By far the best softphone I can find. Most features available for free, but advanced features require payment. _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] https://lists.lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
