I'm sorry, without the question or conversation from IRC, it's kind of tough to 
figure out what you're talking about in this post - what is the question you're 
asking, or problem you're trying to solve?

Normally, you should have domain.com A record to the IP address, and 
www.domain.com CNAME for domain.com.  Then you would configure the web server 
to use name based virtual hosting, and ServerName domain.com, and ServerAlias 
www.domain.com

This is a standard configuration that every web host should support natively.

If that's not what you want, what *do* you want?
