Such a list has to have enough traffic to warrant employers (or
potential employers) subscribing to it. I don't think this comes close
to that level.
Honestly, having employers subscribe to it has almost no value. Posts that
just elicit recruiter spam are all noise, no signal.
Our best value is other LOPSA members who work at shops that are hiring.
Or even just LOPSA members who think they would really like to work
with the person who posts. When geek mentioned that he was looking, I told
my boss to make it happen whether or not we had an opening.
When looking for a job, I would much rather talk to a peer working at the
company than start off with a recruiter or HR.
When not looking for job, talking to a peer at the company is the best way
to convince me that I should be looking for a job at that company :).
Also, many of us get referal bonuses, so we're incentivised to find peers
who are looking.
Without employers subscribing, the value of posting there approaches zer
o.
If a job-hunter posts his availability on a list with no employers,
did he really post it at all? :-)
Yup :).
My job referals were responsible for 20% of our company's employee growth
last year and I helped several other people get hired at other companies
as well. I'm currently not a hiring manager or a c-level, so I don't count
as an employer.
Heck, earlier in the year I chatted with you about a friend you mentioned
in channel, then geek and I put him in for a recommendation and now he's
working with us :).
ciao,
