It's a public mailing list, and the archives are available on the
LOPSA.org web site for anyone to see -- no sign in, no password. There's
no need for security because a deliberate decision was made that the
archives of the list should be public (and searchable by Google and the
like).

I prefer to look at the problem to be solved or the service to be
offered and given the parameters and requirements, choose the
appropriate technology. When LOPSA was formed, Slack didn't exist; since
then, several new things have come -- AND GONE. There's a cost to LOPSA
in switching from one service to another, so unless the existing
solution no longer meets the requirements, there's no good reason to
switch. LOPSA also needs to consider how long any new service will
exist; anyone remember Google Wave? Orkut? Friendster? Myspace? So where
are the new requirements, and where is the analysis of whether the
existing solution meets those requirements? Show those to the Board and
then you can complain that LOPSA isn't "up to date"; until then, all you
have is "but Slack is cool."

LOPSA also has to consider how many members will drop off the list (and
possibly out of the organization) if the forums change too often; sure,
thay may be balanced by how many will join because of the switch, but my
point is there's a second analysis that would need to be done before
switching services. LOPSA has enough membership problems that any big
change like this which may affect membership needs to be given very
careful consideration.

Over the LOPSA mailing lists? I certainly don't, and certainly nothing
I've seen from anyone else is what I would consder sensitive -- maybe
because most folks on the list know it's a public forum.
