Hello Luis, I've tinkered with l2switch a bit and I found it to be an excellent example. It is a tragedy that it is no longer alive.
Another useful addition could be adding vlan tagging. I have some ideas for that and have experimented with the old code base. I can help out if you want to bring the project back to life. Fair warning: My level of expertise is limited despite a good couple of years tinkering with application building using OpenDaylight.
