In Flander/Belgium, there was the geGIS (generic GIS) back in 2006, which lead to the creation of the Geomajas project. The idea was to have a generic platform for the creation what was called "editable SDI nodes". Although it fell a bit short of reaching that goal, it dfinitely was a step in the right direction. This first geGIS installment is now a little outdated, but the government in Flanders is now looking into renewing the project (using the latest Geomajas again).

Contact point would be [email protected] (the company currently maintaining geGIS)

dear all,

Next month I've been asked to give a talk about the OSGeo stack to a group responsible for planning Scotland's Spatial Data Infrastructure.

I'm keen to hear of examples of use of OSGeo software packages in SDI projects, especially with an INSPIRE focus. For instance I have heard that several Scandinavian countries are collaborating on patches to GeoNetwork to provide a "member state geoportal" service whose backend can be maintained in common.

Particularly relevant are experiences of (semi-)autonomous regions which are feeding data in to national infrastructure but also maintaining what they consider to be their own SDI. I just asked this on the Spanish list as well.

Any examples of OSGeo software use (anything from GDAL/OGR and PostGIS through OpenLayers and beyond) that could serve as a few-slides "case study" would be much appreciated.

cheers,

jo
