dear all,

Next month I've been asked to give a talk about the OSGeo stack to a group responsible for planning Scotland's Spatial Data Infrastructure.

I'm keen to hear of examples of use of OSGeo software packages in SDI projects, especially with an INSPIRE focus. For instance I have heard that several Scandinavian countries are collaborating on patches to GeoNetwork to provide a "member state geoportal" service whose backend can be maintained in common.

I haven't heard about GeoNetwork collaboration, but two examples from Finland are:

Lounaispaikka: http://www.lounaispaikka.fi/ a regional (there aren't yet many others in Finland) SDI, which is developing a new system, afaik, mostly if not only on foss4g both on server and client side.

Paikkatietoikkuna, http://www.paikkatietoikkuna.fi/web/EN part of national SDI, is also quite new. It is also using foss and foss4g.

Particularly relevant are experiences of (semi-)autonomous regions which are feeding data in to national infrastructure but also maintaining what they consider to be their own SDI. I just asked this on the Spanish list as well.

Click on "Yhteystiedot" on http://www.lounaispaikka.fi/ to see contact information of that regional SDI.

Any examples of OSGeo software use (anything from GDAL/OGR and PostGIS through OpenLayers and beyond) that could serve as a few-slides "case study" would be much appreciated.

cheers,
