Ionuț is a senior researcher at the Institute of Cartography and Geoinformation at ETH Zurich - Switzerland and an active advocate of FOSS4G for many years. He contributed to projects like QGIS and QGIS MapServer. I would also like to remember that he did some important scientific contributions in the field of Cartographic Web Services [2] and FOSS4G promotion for education and research by setting up the Open Source Geospatial Laboratory at ETH Zurich[3] (part of ICA-OSGeo network).
