I'd like to highlight the importance of providing legitimate licenses
for Windows XP if possible.

I don't want to approach this on a "if possible" basis -- the only Windows machines going out the door that I handle are going to be ones done by the book.

The more microsoft licensing restricts us the more Lubuntu 12.04 machines will go out the door instead -- their funeral.

I'm only interested in giving away what we can give away -- there's no reason for us to jump through hoops or violate license terms when we're not the real bennificiary of what's going on here.

Note, though, that OEM licenses can not be
transferred. However, if the whole system (along with an OEM license)
can be provided, the machine (with the OEM license) is transferable. OEM
keys are simply locked to the physical box that has the sticker of
authenticity and activation code stuck to it.

Thank you for explaining that detail, I wasn't sure about that -- I thought some folks had talked about sticker transfer operations or use of non-retail stickers that had been removed from tossed machines.

I'm hoping we can still use drive imaging so we're not wasting time on per-machine installs and upgrades -- e.g. do an OEM install on one machine, copy to another drive and enter the key specific to that second machine? (Did I see a button for changing key in use under system properties in XP?)
