Basically what Ron said. If it's sufficiently awesome, it doesn't need to affect the entire public so much (though some kind of classes would help those chances a lot). A lot of what we'll be funding will be things that affect the culture of the city as a whole, but the criteria for 'awesome' really changes between projects. Whether it's a dystopian-future movie filmed on our streets, or new equipment donated to an accessible maker space after someone uses it for their own needs, or cameras for small children to play with, it just needs to be awesome in its own way.

Hey,

AMichael can give a better answer than me, but the short answer is this:
the Awesome Foundation isn't affiliated with SkullSpace, we just have a
bunch of overlapping members. If the project is cool enough - and last
time I checked, there weren't many cool projects in the queue - it had a
decent chance of being funded, whether or not it's SkullSpace related.

So, whether or not it's a SkullSpace project, submit it! :)

I have a question on the scope of projects that the review group is looking
for - if it is something that benefits Skullspace members (present and
future) more than Winnipeg citizens as a whole would that be too narrow of
an impact to be considered?

For example, I think a semi-autonomous robot "dog" for the space would make a nice pet/mascot and framework for robotics skill development as well as a
potential attention-getter for things like ComicCon/JimCon booths in the
future. My thought of the last week or so was to just fund it and work on
it as I am able but additional funding can always be useful.

For those curious or with suggestions on the implementation side, I'm
thinking tread-style motion for the ability to turn-in-place, Raspberry
Pi-based brain with wifi connection, "feeding"-center charging spot to
visit as needed, sensors tbd but object avoidance, mic, and speaker at
least.

But is is Awesome enough for application to the foundation?
