Hackers in tents!
Sounds great, and I might partake, but if anyone would join me, I'd be interested in a slightly different style of hacking retreat (some other time) with these traits:
* Location with some kind of building with space for tables and chairs, perhaps already on site. Heated if done as a winter retreat.
* Needs to have electricity, off grid considered a bonus as long as there's enough for running laptops and folks are willing to conserve it just for that
* No celluar service, no wired phone service, and low chance of Colin microwaving any internet in. I want to get the hell away from all telecom and just work on my code with offline docs and distributed version control.
* Understanding amoung those traveling that outside is for fun and games, inside is for concentrated and quiet hacking, reading, writing, and sleeping
I talked to one Skullspace member a few weeks ago who has such a location in the family and an interest in sharing. Includes off-grid solar and wind electricity. Ridiculously remote, very long day drive required to reach, including substantial slow drive on long gravel road on last leg. Theoretically possible for Colin to microwave to the nearest town, but unlikely (yes!) due to cost and tower transport logistics required.
Any interest? Mark _______________________________________________ SkullSpace Discuss Mailing List Help: http://www.skullspace.ca/wiki/index.php/Mailing_List#Discuss Archive: https://groups.google.com/group/skullspace-discuss-archive/
