Hi Aemilianus,
I am teaching Java because I think it's a good language for learning the
fundamentals of programming. Notably, compared to languages like Python and
Ruby, Java is strongly typed. I think that beginning programmers do need to
learn to declare variables and be aware of data types and type conversion. The
price isn't for "Java", it's for the fundamentals of programming, which can
then be applied to any other imperative language - Python, Ruby, C/C++,
JavaScript, BASIC, PHP, etc.
