I like the idea of planning some workshops to raise funds, although I may
be one of the few on that train of thought? Or so the relevant mailing
list thread would have me believe.

Check out below - I've been in talks with someone from element14 about
event sponsorships, etc, any ideas?

Hi Troy,
Sorry for not replying sooner, I've sitting too many briefings and
brainstorming for the last couple of days.

Thanks for letting me know about Skullspace, glad you got some connections
there. We have received many queries about affiliation schemes and
discounted purchase schemes and we have added it to our report. I hope this
would be something happening soon. My colleagues in charge of US campaign
have received several responses from hackerspaces and some groups
apparently consist of big numbers with more plannings in mind. As our
campaign budget is mainly based on online coverage, that is, the more
sites/blogs the bigger budget we can offer. If a big site could organise a
contest that attract many outside entries (e.g. members own blog posts
under the contest theme), then we may provide more free products pending on
the total numbers. Would skullspace be interested in such an event? I'm
also planning to do some PCB design contests in the wake of the new RPi
compute
module<http://www.raspberrypi.org/raspberry-pi-compute-module-new-product/>(launching
next month). I'd like to run some contests across Canada if I
could find some good partners. What do you think?
Also on a side note, Farnell is also keen to receive interests of larger
event fundraising from bigger groups, Farnell actually sponsored
hackillinois <http://www.hackillinois.org/> last month!

Another couple of update on our side,
1. We are preparing to launch a conductive ink/pen drawing contest shortly,
I intend to invite some small groups or individuals to register their
interests first, then I'll send out a tool-kit pack (say some of this
product<http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?SKU=1663187&MER=i-bn-mer-0613-hp-m1-67258-1663187>
).
There was a similar idea on BBC
Click<http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01wm1tw>last month, ( or this
youtube
video <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEW50zZnNO0> if you cant access bbc
iplayer). It'd be great if we could find 5-10 candidates from every country
we are working on. The prizes will be finalised after we gather enough
interests. I'll surely ask some educational groups I'm working with again
and I think those tutors/kids would find it interesting too.
2. We are also trying to pick some good and new projects such as the latest RPi
mobile
phone<http://www.raspberrypi.org/piphone-home-made-raspberry-pi-smartphone/>
(I
tried to approached the Irish blogger/creator, no reply -_-! ), to turn the
project into first-hand infographics. Do you have any other good projects
to recommend?

Thanks
