I have backed up all my MP3 recordings onto an external hard drive. Does the quality of the MP3s suffer from repeated copying like some image files do(Jpeg)?

If copying files, neither format will be changed at all.
If continually re-compressing the same file over and over again, quality will suffer for both formats.
If deleting the files, quality will be reduced significantly.
Moral of this story is "don't do that".
