Okay, I will try slimserver on my MDK box tomorrow then to see what
happens. It's an old PII-350 OC'ed to 550Mhz which still runs my live
PostgreSQL DB, Sendmail, BIND and Samba File Shares just fine on two
160GB drives. :-)

I have my music on a seperate server (mandrake9) from my slimserver
machine(Win2K3) that shares my music via smb and I have it mapped to
my slimserver computer as my z: drive. When I configure slimserver to
scan z:\, it returns an error saying 'Oops - "Z:" doesn't seem to be a
valid directory. Try again.' Is this a limitation of slimserver that
it cannot use mapped drives for getting music?
There are known problems with MS services accessing network drives,
check the group's archives. I don't keep up with the details
because I run mine on one of my linux boxes.... see below....
I can certainly put slimserver on my linux box if need be.
I strongly suggest you try this. You just get the RPM and install it
I've been running my slimserver on linux for years. Worked fine on
an old, slow P3-500 until it burned up (because I forgot to clean out
the dust bunnies in the fans).
