I've used X10 before. I wouldn't think you would want to use X10 to
control the heating/air conditioning of your house. Based on my
experiences, you would come home from work and find the house to be on
full heat in the middle of summer or full air conditioning in the
middle of winter. X10 hasn't been very reliable for me. It kept
turning my bedroom light on in the middle of the night for no reason. It did this quite often. It also turned things off randomly. Now all
of my X10 devices are in a box in the basement. They won't wake me up
in the middle of the night that way. :)
I'm not saying that you couldn't make your squeezebox do it, I just wouldn't suggest using X10 for it. X10 should be used for non-mission critical applications in my opinion.

It's a radio thing, uses the same channels as car alarms. My neighbor and I have definitely annoyed the hell out of each other, me turning off his alarm, him turning on my lights. I've changed channels a few times, so we don't totally interfere, but it's not perfect by a long shot.
