With about 9k tracks, mine uses about 40MB of the 64 and less than 2% of
CPU at idle, about 3-4% CPU when playing mp3s, and can spike to the 90s
when scanning the music folder or serving up web pages.  I do not
experience playback skips.  The web interface does run a bit slow, and
there's a 2-3 second delay when powering up the Squeezebox -- but that's
all the inconvenience I've experienced.

Who's running the deep discount on the 160?
