I understand the DAC will be far superior on SB2, but should we expext a beefed up amp as well or at least the ability to turn it up to a higher line level?
Yes, Squeezebox2 has 6 volt peak-to-peak line out levels, which is the standard for high-end equipment. Squeezebox1 is 3Vpp.
Higher line-out levels are better because:
- levels will match when switching between digital and analog sources at a receiver
- in a/b tests where levels are not matched, louder sources sound better
- higher output voltage means better noise immunity on the cable and into the receiver
