Yes; your understanding was correct.
When I follow your instructions I get only this in the Console:

"0 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG player.verbose - status=STMc fullness=0 bytesRx=0 
elapsedSeconds=0
16 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG player.verbose - status=STMh fullness=0 bytesRx=0 
elapsedSeconds=0"

I then accidentally pressed RESET, instead of CLEAR, and after I closed 
SoftSqueeze down and opened it up again, I got responsive buttons back - 
although it wouldn't play anything.
Then I had to FORGET the previous SoftSqueezae player and associate the 
'new' one, and then the buttons froze again!
