I think I am reproducing this now - going to take some time to figure out what's going on.

What happens when you do it coax only? I get the receiver to freak out--not
only no sound but it keeps trying different decoding types (various noise
reduction types it supports).
Granted, of all my issues, the loss of sync is the most intermittent... and
hasn't occurred since I installed the latest firmware (SB 2 firmware that
is).
