I asked recently about the compilation of code for the Windows platform and never got a response.

Are the Windows exe's compiled directly from the perl source code that runs on other OS's?

SlimServer is bundled into an executable with a built in perl interpreter -
which is different from it actually being compiled.

Once SlimServer is up and running though - it's pretty fast - since it's a
long running process, everything has already been handled at "compile time"
by the interpreter.

Given the issue with faulty perl implementations, can SlimServer be compiled to an executable binary on Linux or any of the other platforms? If that's possible, would a compiled server also possibly be a fix for folks seeing dropouts or other performance issues that might be attributable to running an interpreted application?

Kind of - ActiveState offers such a program for Linux as well, but we've not had time to investigate it. I believe there is some amount of additional license fee for usage.
