On my system (a Linux Gentoo box) Slimserver is not very stable at the moment. I will play fine, but often when I leave it alone for a while it just goes away, crashes, stops, whatever.
What does the logfile say (/tmp/slimserver.log by default)? Are you using MySQL as database?
